A New Award for Misr El Kheir at the Closing of the Luxor African Film Festival for the Film “Fatma”
14 April 2026Misr El Kheir Foundation, a member of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, has won a new humanitarian award for the film “Fatma” at the closing ceremony of the 15th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival. The ceremony included honoring the foundation in recognition of its role in supporting creative works aimed at serving society.
Dr. Hanan El-Derbashi, Head of the Social Solidarity and Debtors Sector at Misr El Kheir Foundation, expressed her great happiness at the film receiving a new award added to the foundation’s record of achievements. She noted that the award came at an international event celebrating African creativity, reflecting the importance of using “soft power” to highlight social issues and encourage social solidarity.
El-Derbashi confirmed that winning at the Luxor film Festival confirms the success of the humanitarian and social mission which the foundation seeks to create real change in the society. She added that she is proud of the praise the film received from artists and filmmakers, despite its short duration of only a few minutes—some of the attendance called for providing all forms of technical support to the foundation to produce such works.
She emphasized that these awards reflect the creators’ belief in the message of the work and represent genuine appreciation for meaningful content that seeks to change societal concepts, with the goal of “drying up the sources of debt-related hardship.”
Dr. Magdy Moharram, Senior Director of the Livelihood Sector at Misr El Kheir Foundation, stated that honoring the foundation at the festival’s closing highlights its leadership as one of the first NGOs working within cultural development and talent support across all governorates, especially in Upper Egypt. He explained that the foundation pays special attention to creative writing workshops focused on social issues due to their significant impact on raising awareness.
In the same context, director Mohannad Diab, director of the film “Fatma,” affirmed that winning awards would not have been possible without the presence of a supporting entity that believes in the importance of bringing these humanitarian issues to light in a distinguished artistic and documentary format.
Diab added that Misr El Kheir Foundation, through its continuous participation in major festivals with works such as “Hekayet Amal”, “Mal Qarun,” and “Fatma,” reinforces its belief in the power of art to change perceptions and create social awareness, supporting those in need and transforming them into inspiring success stories.
