As part of the “Cairo Nights” program of the 46th Cairo International Film Festival, a special seminar titled “How Their Voices Are Told on Screen” was held, focusing on the issue of indebted women. Misr El Kheir Foundation, a member of the National Alliance for Civil Development Work, participated by screening the documentary “Fatma”, directed by Mohannad Diab and produced in collaboration with the foundation. The film tells a true story and features special appearances by the real-life protagonists.
The seminar featured remarks by Dr. Hanan El-Derbashi, Head of the Solidarity and Indebted Support Sector at Misr El Kheir, and filmmaker Mohannad Diab. The session was moderated by media consultant Hala El-Sayed from Misr El Kheir. It was attended by leading filmmakers, social development experts, media representatives, and festival guests.
The seminar opened with a message of appreciation to the festival organizers for including the event in the official program, aiming to create bridges between cinema and civil society organizations. This reflects the festival’s commitment to fostering a cultural and humanitarian dialogue around societal issues.
The discussions saw notable engagement from the audience, highlighting the role of art in addressing social challenges—especially the need to correct misconceptions surrounding the issue of indebtedness, one of the most impactful topics influencing public awareness and decision-makers.
